In Santa Barbara County, African American and Latino youth are overrepresented in juvenile detention facilities. In 2003, African American youth represented 2.1% of the overall youth population, but 6.6% of youth in detention. Latino youth represented 49.8% of the overall youth population and 69% of youth in detention.
