In Santa Clara County, African American and Latino youth are overrepresented in juvenile detention facilities. In 2003, African American youth represented 3.2% of the overall youth population, but 9% of youth in detention. Latino youth represented 32.6% of the overall youth population and 59.7% of youth in detention.
