California: Sonoma County

In Sonoma County, African American, Native American, and Latino youth are overrepresented in juvenile detention facilities. In 2003, African American youth represented 1.8% of the overall youth population, but 8.6% of youth in detention. Native American youth represented 1.1% of the overall youth population and 3.7% of youth in detention. Latino youth represented 24.9% of the overall youth population, but 3.7% of youth in detention.
