We welcome your interest in the Burns Institute model. Over the last decade many jurisdictions have come to realize that they have a significant problem with disproportionate minority confinement (DMC) in their juvenile justice systems. Unfortunately, many of those same jurisdictions have become frustrated by the lack of progress in reduction efforts leading to the belief that DMC is a problem that is just too big to solve.

At the Burns Institute we know that reducing DMC is a solvable problem. If you are in a jurisdiction that has a disproportionality problem, the BI offers you the opportunity to implement our direct strategies to achieve results. We offer a menu of services to get you moving on a seemingly intractable problem with an eye towards actual reduction in a defined period of time.

Our experience has shown that it is almost impossible for jurisdictions to address this problem on their own without the intentionality and focus that the BI process requires. If you know you have a problem and are interested in rolling up your sleeves and getting to work, please contact Senior Assistant Shantel Brooks.
