Partnering with the United Way of Central Ohio, the Burns Institute began work in Columbus, OH in early 2006. The Columbus Advisory Board is co-chaired by the Honorable Jim Mason, Administrative Judge, Franklin County Court of Common Pleas, Division of Domestic Relations and Juvenile Branch and Mr. Mitchell Brown, Director, Department of Public Safety The main disproportionality problem is the overrepresentation of African-American youth. Columbus is currently gathering initial data, researching the neighborhoods contributing most significantly to detention and planning for the community mapping phase of the Burns Institute process.
